Zionism and Overcoming History

November 17, 2022 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm EST

**Israel is the place that allows the Jewish people to shape its own story and
to heal from the traumas of Jewish history. How does this idea manifest in
Israeli life and politics? What are its consequences? **
In this four-part series, _Why Israel? Revisiting the Meaning of Zionism_ ,
**Lauren Berkun** explores why Israel should matter to a 21st century North
American Jew. What are some of the most meaningful spiritual and moral visions
for Israel today? How can we engage in a nuanced, pluralistic conversation
about them? Each class consists of a weekly lecture, text study, and breakout
discussion groups.
Other sessions in this series:
* **The Zionist Idea** : October 27
* **Relational Zionism** : November 3
* **Zionism and Power** : November 10

_This series is part of _[ ** _Ideas for
Today_**](https://www.hartman.org.il/program/ideas-for-today/), _curated
courses by Hartman Institute scholars on the big Jewish ideas of this moment._
