**How might certain materials be created and used to orient ourselves in
domestic and ritual space? How can something as commonplace as paper perform
as a designation of place in nurturing a sense of ‘home’?**
In response to our ongoing exhibition _Public Intimacy_ , we invite you to an
interactive workshop that will delve into the Jewish folk art tradition of
papercutting. **With artist and researcher Iso E. Setel** , participants will
learn about the significance of this delicate art form, from its religious
uses in homes and synagogues, to numerous contemporary practitioners who are
reviving the medium.
Following a discussion on the relationship between the art and history of
papercutting and its interwoven themes within _Public Intimacy_ , participants
will be invited to create a papercut work of their own, either from a
historical sample that they may trace, or from their own imagination. By the
end of the workshop, everyone will be able to take home a finished or in-
progress papercut.
This workshop is proudly presented in partnership with (https://www.aupapierjaponais.com/index.php), (https://www.concordia.ca/about/sustainability/sustainability-
initiatives/zero-waste/zero-waste-key-initiatives/cuccr.html), and (https://nivmag.com/).
**Tickets are $17 for general admission and $12 for students, plus applicable
taxes. All materials will be provided.** Complimentary and beverages will be
available. **Early registration is encouraged as capacity for this workshop is
limited.**
