From September 22 to November 24, the Cummings Centre is proud to introduce an
online series of events in which participants can learn more about some iconic
entertainers. On September 22, participants can discover Nat “King” Cole, a
gentle, mild-mannered man, virtuosic pianist/vocalist who was also a
pioneering force in the fight for racial equality. On October 20, participants
can learn about Ella Fitzgerald, the most popular female jazz vocalist in the
world for more than half a century– and her flawless musicianship and
eternally youthful voice helped define the sound of jazz and the popular
standards of The Great American Songbook. On November 24, participants will
explore Carole King’s incredibly tuneful, emotionally direct, and timeless
music which has earned her a permanent place of honour.
