Drama Therapy

November 14, 2022 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm EST

**What is drama therapy?**

Drama therapy is a therapeutic approach using techniques and practices from
the world of theatre that facilitates meaningful insight, exploration, or
action.

**I don’t have time to read everything below. Can you sum it up – why should
I try this?**

To strengthen your inner voice, get to know your self more deeply, and try out
new ways of being in the world

**Who is it for and who will be involved?**

Anyone can benefit from drama therapy! It is especially empowering for those
who would like to: reflect on the past and process it safely, feel and express
complex emotions, connect more deeply with their body, develop a flexible
response to the instability of life, or try out new ways of communicating and
behaving in certain situations.

Group drama therapy is a collaborative process between participants and the
drama therapist which aims to create a cohesive dynamic where participants can
hold space for each other and for themselves. Through drama therapy,
participants may heal in community with others and share a profound,
collective experience.

**How does it look and what does it do?**

Informed consent and collaboration are fundamental to drama therapy, and yet
the creative process is inherently unpredictable and improvisational.
Participants need no prior acting or performing experience in order to benefit
from and take full advantage of drama therapy, which is not about performing,
but about utilizing a diversity of creative arts to bring about insight and
exploration. Many benefits that participants reap from drama therapy come from
being called to trust in themselves and the process and to take a risk. This
risk-taking and trust-building develops character, resilience, and
imagination, which in turn might improve expressiveness, communication,
boundaries, self-trust, hope, and more. Drama therapy practices can diminish
anxiety and provide safe and creative outlets for difficult feelings like
anger, grief, and fear, as well as make space to experience positive emotions
and practice emotional regulation.

**When will it happen?**

Each Monday evening from 5:30-7pm for 8 consecutive weeks:
_October 31; November 7, 14, 21, 28; December 5, 12, 19_

**Where is it?**

5400 Ave de Westbury, Montreal
