**What is art therapy?**
Art therapy is a therapeutic practice that uses art and creative processes to
help individuals improve their wellbeing. In art therapy, we can use any form
of visual arts to explore and express feelings and thoughts that might be
challenging to put into words.
**Who can benefit from art therapy?**
In a group setting or individual sessions, art therapy can help anyone
struggling with articulating their struggles with anxiety, stress, depression,
and trauma. Art therapy is also a great tool for self-exploration and gaining
more personal insight.
**Do I need to have prior experience / skills in art to join the group?**
No, not at all.
**How can joining a therapy group help me?**
Being part of a therapeutic group can help individuals work on their social
skills, on giving and receiving support, and on gaining perspective and
insight while learning from others’ experiences. Group therapy allows
participants to express emotions and get feedback in a supportive environment,
leading to better understanding their own feelings and undergoing personal
growth.
**How many participants will be in this group?**
The group will have around 8 participants, aged between 25 and 35.
**What should I expect an art therapy group session to look like?**
In our first session we will take time to get to know each other a little bit
and formulate the “group guidelines”. These are important so everyone feels
safe and comfortable to share and take part
– we can call this our “therapeutic contract”.
Afterward, our sessions will have two parts: work and share. We will spend the
first half of the sessions working with art individually (or in pairs or small
groups). In the second part of the session, we will return to the group and
share our thoughts and feelings about what we had done, listen to others, and
share feedback.
