SUMMARY:The Challenges of Outreach: Interfaith Engagement CoP
DESCRIPTION:Federation CJA is proud to be hosting an Interfaith Engagement Communtiy of\nPractice (CoP) intended to foster a community of like-minded professionals\nthat are focused on engaging interfaith couples and families. \nIf you are a community professional or volunteer who is interested in\nfurthering your interfaith couple and family engagement strategy\, we hope you\nwill join us in person on Thursday February 16th from 12:00-1:30pm! Lunch will\nbe served. This session is the second of a 6-part series that will include\nmonthly meetings from January through June 2022. \nEach Interfaith Engagement Community of Practice session will include a\nnetworking component\, the sharing of best practices when it comes to\ninterfaith engagement\, a peer-to-per coaching component\, and a capacity\nbuilding workshop. This session\, our capacity building workshop will focus on\n**_The Challenges of Outreach: How do we engage people who have no connection\nto our community?_** In this workshop we will address one of the biggest\nchallenges of outreach and engagement; how do we connect with people who are\nnot yet connected to our community? More specifically\, how can we engage\ninterfaith couples and families if we don’t know who they are? Participants\nwill explore different outreach strategies and best practices\, identify which\nwould work best for their engagement programs\, and leave with an action plan\nto further their outreach efforts. \nView event on Jlive: https://jlive.app/events/3931

SUMMARY:Heavenly Bodies\, Terrestrial Time: Exploring Astronomy in the Hebrew Calendar
DESCRIPTION:Rosh Hashanah marks the beginning of a new year\, a new month\, and the High\nHolidays- but have you ever wondered what determines these ever-changing\ndates? Join the Museum of Jewish Montreal to find out\, with a night of festive\nstargazing and astronomical exploration. \nLed by Plateau Astro’s Trevor Kjorlien and former micrograntee daph ben david\,\nvisitors will be taken on a guided walk through the Plateau to learn about the\nrelationship between the planetary movements\, the Jewish new year and the\nHebrew calendar. \nTogether we will investigate the rituals which have guided the marking of\nJewish time for thousands of years\, how those rituals have transformed\, and\nwhy their importance persists. The walk will conclude in Parc Jeanne Mance\nwhere visitors will be invited to explore the night sky by telescope. \n _Please note that space is limited. Please indicate any mobility restrictions\nor accessibility needs during registration\, or contact us directly at\ninfo@imjm.ca._ \n **About Our Speakers:** \n **Trevor Kjorlien** is a Space Educator who runs Plateau Astro\, a small\ncompany in Montréal dedicated to teaching people about space\, astronomy\, and\nculture. \n **daph ben david** (they/them) is a gender/queer educator\, activist\, stage\nmanager\, aspiring rabbinical student\, and proud Montrealer. They have taught\nsocial justice to Jewish teens\, worked as a substitute and History teacher in\npublic schools\, and taught community workshops on topics ranging from anti-\npipeline activism in Canada to transness in the Jewish tradition. Lately\, daph\nhas been focusing on bridging their activism and healing work with Jewish\npractice\, personally and in community\, especially through art and liturgy. \nView event on Jlive: https://jlive.app/events/2768
